ABOUT US
The gallery was founded in the 90s, not in New Zealand, but on the other side of the world, in Germany.
After working at major art fairs like Art Cologne for several years, I decided to start my own gallery.
Kunstschnittgalerie opened its doors near the Düsseldorf Art Academy, with simple internet and
no Facebook, Instagram or the like. Later, the move to Duisburg took place.
Since we had always wanted to live and work abroad for a while, we moved to New Zealand in 2007 and
founded the Artcut Gallery (Kunstschnittgalerie in German) in Central Otago. It was more of a boutique
gallery at first, with just a few artists. New Zealand has a significantly smaller population than Germany,
with a accordingly smaller art scene. There were also no traditional art fairs in sight.
The gallery grew over time, so it moved to the geographic centre of Picton, near Wellington, Nelson
and many international visitors, under the name Artofact Gallery, to be able to present
the collection in a space of 200 square metres.
Artofact Gallery presents a changing programme of contemporary art exhibitions by New Zealand and
international artists, as well as exhibitions of selected works from the secondary market.
